Felony failure to register as a predatory offender and gross misdemeanor fifth degree controlled substance crime

On Sept. 20, police received a report of a disturbance at 1214 Meadow St. Christian Franklin Porter, 34, Erskine, has been charged with felony failure to register as a predatory offender and gross misdemeanor fifth degree controlled substance crime. He was arrested. Upon arriving at the scene, police encountered Porter, who said he and his wife were arguing about their kids. She said she didn’t want him there anymore, so he agreed to leave. A short time later, police were again called to the home since Porter was taking property from the home. According to the complaint, police also learned that Porter is required to register as a predatory offender and hadn’t registered this address. His wife said Porter had lived there since his release from custody Sept. 11. The complaint indicated that he had previously been convicted of failing to register in 2016 in Polk County. While being placed under arrest, Porter emptied his pockets. He allegedly possessed a plastic bag of methamphetamine.

Felony third degree controlled substance crime, third degree driving while impaired (controlled substance) and child endangerment

On Sept. 9 at 6:28 p.m., police received a report of an accident at Hartz Park. Jade Leeper, 34, Thief River Falls, has been charged with felony third degree controlled substance crime, third degree DWI (controlled substance) and child endangerment. Paige Jean Lofberg, 23, Thief River Falls, has been charged with felony third degree controlled substance crime. They were arrested. Police learned that Leeper had backed into a vehicle owned by Scott Hemmestvedt while attempting to park in a parking space. According to the complaint, Leeper appeared to be excessively sweaty and nervous. Police learned from a Marshall County sheriff’s deputy that Leeper had relapsed. However, he said he hadn’t. Inside the vehicle, police found needles, small baggies, a spoon containing possible meth, a digital scale and multiple contact lens cases. Leeper allegedly possessed a needle, $573 in cash and a bag containing meth. He also had suspected needle puncture marks on his body. Leeper said they were mosquito bites. He allegedly pointed to the top of his wrist, where he showed police that he had injected meth a day earlier. A search warrant was then obtained for a blood draw. Lofberg and at least one of Leeper’s kids were passengers in the vehicle. All three kids were released to their great-grandfather, who had driven separately to the park. Lofberg allegedly told police that they couldn’t search her because she is a female. The complaint indicated that Lofberg moderately resisted arrested. She was fidgety and agitated, which are signs of meth use.

Felony fifth degree controlled substance crime

On Sept. 9, the sheriff’s office received a report that a man was passed out in car parked at Seven Clans Casino, Hotel and Water Park. Brandeis Jayde Olberg, 37, Newfolden, has been charged with two felony counts of fifth degree controlled substance crime. He was arrested. Olberg was allegedly sleeping with a meth pipe in his lap. Two baggies were found on the driver’s seat – one containing suspected marijuana and the other containing meth. A pouch containing 0.56 grams of meth and another pipe were found on the passenger seat. A pipe to smoke marijuana was found on the floor on the driver’s side and a pipe suspected of being used to smoke meth was found in the trunk. The complaint indicated that Olberg had been previously convicted of fifth degree controlled substance crime in October 2009. He has pending drug charges in Hubbard and Red Lake counties as well as a pending DWI charge in Red Lake County.

DWI –controlled substance

On Sept. 22 at 5:19 a.m., police performed a traffic stop in the 1100 block of Stephen St. Bryan Ray Johnson, 28, Thief River Falls, has charges pending for DWI – controlled substance.

Gross misdemeanor fifth degree controlled substance crime, escape from custody, fleeing a peace officer by means other than a motor vehicle and disorderly conduct

On Sept. 22 at 11:16 a.m., police received a report that a man was loud and running behind other mobile homes in the 1200 block of Stephen St. Bryan Ray Johnson, 28, Thief River Falls, has been charged with two counts of gross misdemeanor fifth degree controlled substance crime, escape from custody, fleeing a peace officer by means other than a motor vehicle and disorderly conduct. He was arrested. According to the complaint, this was the third call that morning to Morgan’s home at 1222 Stephen St. Upon entering the home, police allegedly saw an uncapped needle, a spoon and what appeared to be heroin. They also found a baggie of presumptive cocaine. Johnson allegedly said they belonged to someone else and he didn’t live there. He ran from an officer and was soon apprehended by another officer.

Escape from custody

On Sept. 19 at 10:36 a.m., the sheriff’s office received a report of an escape from custody. Nicolle Renee Berg, 34, Lake Bronson, has charges pending for escape from custody. She was arrested. Berg was granted a furlough for a medical appointment and allegedly didn’t attend the appointment or return to the jail.

Issuance of dishonored checks

The following people have been cited for issuance of dishonored checks

Emmanuel Godfred Salah, 28, Fargo, N.D.,

Brendan Ryan Braunschweig, 18, Thief River Falls.

Each individual’s checks totalled less than $250.

Possession of a small amount of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, underage possession of alcohol and underage possession of tobacco

On Sept. 18 at 5:48 p.m., police attempted to locate a girl and found two 16-year-old Thief River Falls males who allegedly possessed illegal items. One boy has charges pending for possession of a small amount of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and underage possession of alcohol. The other boy has charges pending for underage possession of tobacco.

Theft

On Sept. 20 at 11:40 a.m., police received a report of a theft at the Evangelical Free Church. Someone had stolen a ProPress plumbing crimping tool and a DeWalt drill. The items are owned by a Thief River Falls man, who was doing work at the church.

On Sept. 20 at 3:46 p.m., police received a report of a theft at 414 St. Paul Ave. S. Someone had entered a garage and stolen a vanity and sink.

Vandalism

On Sept. 21 at 7:44 a.m., police received a report of vandalism outside of 601 State Ave. N. Someone had shot a window on a pickup truck.

On Sept. 22 at 1:19 p.m., the sheriff’s office received a report of vandalism outside of TR Salvage. Someone had broken the window of a customer’s Telehandler.

Failure to appear in court

On Sept. 22 at 3:46 p.m., the sheriff’s office received a report of failure to appear in court. Benjamin Francis Bren, 38, Thief River Falls, has charges pending for failure to appear in court.

Theft

On Sept. 23 at 3:23 a.m., police received a report of a theft at Northland Student Housing, 1001 Longren Ave. A Thief River Falls woman reported that someone had stolen her iPhone 6, which has a purple case. She was attending a party at the time.

Refusal to submit to alcohol-level test and open bottle

On Sept. 24 at 1:25 a.m., police performed a traffic stop near the intersection of Greenwood Street and Highway 59. Wade Thomas Westlake, 35, Plummer, has charges pending for refusal to submit to an alcohol-level test and open bottle. He was arrested.

Leaving the scene of an accident, driving after revocation and no proof of insurance

On Sept. 24 at 1:31 a.m., police received a report of a hit and run accident in the parking lot of the Rusty Nail. Catherine Joyce Alcozer, 29, Thief River Falls, has been cited for leaving the scene of an accident, driving after revocation and no proof of insurance. She allegedly backed her 2005 Ford Freestar into a parked 2015 Toyota Scion owned by a Thief River Falls woman. Alcozer then left the scene on foot.

DWI

On Sept. 24 at 3:23 a.m., police performed a traffic stop near the intersection of Highway 1 Northeast and 125th Avenue Northeast. Gregory Thomas Dyrdal, 55, Thief River Falls, has been cited for DWI.

Vandalism

On Sept. 24 at 12:53 p.m., police received a report of vandalism outside of 524 LaBree Ave. N. Someone had slashed the tires on a vehicle.

On Sept. 24 at 2:32 p.m., the sheriff’s office received a report of vandalism at the Goodridge Senior Center. Someone said a couple of kids were breaking a window there.

Accident

On Sept. 24 at 3:19 p.m., police received a report of an accident in the 1900 block of Hwy. 59 S. At the time of the accident, Autumn J. Larson of Red Lake Falls was driving a 2002 Chevy Impala southbound on Highway 59. According to the report, she swerved to avoid a head-on collision with another vehicle. Her car then collided with a lightpole. No injuries were reported.

Vehicle tampering

On Sept. 25 at 7:03 a.m., police received a report of vehicle tampering outside of 902 Duluth Ave. N. Someone had damaged a stereo and stolen an Innova disc golf bag with 10 frisbees.
