Felony fifth degree controlled substance crime, gross misdemeanor fifth degree controlled substance crime, giving a false name and date of birth to a police officer, and warrant apprehension
On May 31 at 12:10 a.m., police received a report that it appeared people were going to push a cart of merchandise out of Walmart without paying. Alicia Margaret Lou Gurno, 31, Red Lake, has been charged with two felony counts of fifth degree controlled substance crime. Nicole Rae Lussier, 38, Red Lake, has been charged with gross misdemeanor fifth degree controlled substance crime, and giving a false name and date of birth to a police officer. They were arrested. Derek Lee Beaulieu, 34, Red Lake, was arrested on a Hennepin County warrant. Upon receiving the report, police were on standby outside of the store, waiting for word from Walmart personnel. At that time, Beaulieu and another man exited the store. The men unloaded two carts into a van. The women soon exited the store. Store personnel then informed police that the group hadn’t paid for merchandise in the second cart since one woman had tried to pass a check from the Salvation Army, which had been declined. As a sergeant began talking with one woman, she was loading items back into the cart to return them to the store. He helped her load the items and then allegedly saw a blue marijuana pipe in the van. A Minnesota State Patrol trooper saw Q-tips, tinfoil and a clear pen tube with brown residue. Law enforcement then searched the van. A purse was found between the front seats. It contained two baggies of a substance that had a presumptive positive test result for methamphetamine. Both women denied owning the purse. A baggie containing meth was also found underneath the passenger seat. All of the meth totalled 0.9 grams. When booked into the jail, Gurno allegedly possessed a baggie of meth. The complaint indicated that Gurno had been convicted of controlled substance crimes in Beltrami County in December 2015 and March 2016. Lussier was identified by police; however, she allegedly handed them a driver’s license with a different name and date of birth. She had a purse on her shoulder, which contained a small baggie containing meth residue.
